Danie Niehaus – Liefde en ‘n perske
Well known South African artist born in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, and the son of the late Dana Niehaus, a veteran South African DJ and actor in his time. Danie studied at the Potchefstroom University where he was a member of the Alabama Studentegeselskap, not as a singer, but as a comedian. At the age of 29 he starting taking up sport in earnest, subsequently winning Western Province colours in athletics. He followed a career as a sport journalist, working for newspapers such as Beeld and Die Burger, as well as at the SABC in Sea Point, Cape Town for almost 10 years. It was in this time that he decided to record his own compositions, which were issued on the album “Danie Niehaus” in 1984. The album was nominated for a SARIE award in that year. He followed this up with several albums, including “Rondloper”, “Kleure”, “Dagboek”, “Jy is Vrou”, and others. In 1993 he toured South Africa with Bonnie Tyler.
He has also appeared on television as the presenter of programmes such as “Skokiaan” and “Maak ‘n las” on SABC2, and he regularly performs abroad in places such as London, Scotland and New Zealand. In 2014 he won a SAMA Award for Best Afrikaans Adult Contemporary Album for “Fynskrif”.
