(Fredi Nest needed no introduction when it came to the commercial music scene in South Africa. He had not only proven himself to be a very talented singer with multi-platinum selling albums behind him, but also one of South Africa's leading songwriters! Fredi Nest wrote hit songs for other South African singers for years. Over the years he performed on many festivals and shows with great names in the South African music industry like Annelie van Rooyen).

Fredi Nest (Fredi Nester Esterhuizen) was 'n bekende Suid-Afrikaanse liedjieskrywer en sanger. Van sy gewildste liedjies sluit in: ‘Getoor‘, ‘Sê My‘, ‘Meer En Meer‘, ‘Hey DJ en ‘Bly Net Naby My‘.

Fredi was 'n veelsydige en bekroonde liedjieskrywer en sanger.

Fredi is op 25 Maart 1959 in Johannesburg, Suid-Afrika gebore en was die oudste van vyf kinders. Hy het al van kleintyd af gesing en kitaar gespeel, maar het eers in sy laat dertigs besluit om musiek sy loopbaan te maak. In 1995 is sy debuut album, ‘Memory Train‘, uitgereik.

In 1996 ontvang hy die ‘IBA-prys‘ vir ‘Listen To Me’ as die mees gespeelde liedjie op gemeenskap-radiostasies.

Hy het in September 2012 twee hartaanvalle direk na mekaar oorleef en toe nog ‘n hartaanval slegs dae daarna. Hy het herstel en weer die land vol getoer en gesing.

Die sanger het Woensdag, 30 April 2015, simptome van ‘n beroerte getoon waarna hy onmiddellik hospitaal toe geneem is. Fredi is in ‘Steve Biko Akademiese-hospitaal’ opgeneem, waarna ‘n CT-skandering bepaal het dat hy nie ‘n beroerte gehad het nie, maar dat ‘n melanoom, wat tydens ‘n ondersoek direk na die ‘Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees’ ontdek is, na sy brein versprei het. Ongeveer 2 maande na die diagnose is hy op Vrydag, 3 Julie 2015, oorlede.
